PLANNING

Planning provides assistance in directing the orderly growth of the City and the upgrading of existing land use through the development, implementation, and maintenance of immediate and long-range general and specific community plans and policies.

The goal of the Planning Division is to:

  • Assist applicants in the comprehensive understanding of the planning and building codes applicable to development in the City of Cotati.
  • Provide systematic collection, organization, and processing of information to facilitate decision making regarding the physical, economic and social growth of the City. The planning process consists of gathering facts, analyzing their meaning and importance, establishing goals, formulating plans to achieve these goals and implementing said plans. Planning can provide a mechanism for community cooperation and the successful function of neighborhood living through zoning administration.
  • Promote the efficient use of land within Sonoma County through regional cooperation in order to protect the quality of life in Sonoma County.
  • Provide information and education regarding the conservation of resources including recycling, reuse and reduction.
